Inspired by our Heritage

Fanm Mon was launched in 2013 as an ode to our Haitian heritage and the magic and enchantment of Haitian couture. Over the years, we've embraced the artisanal techniques of Ukraine, where we were once based, and Turkey, where we've now made a new home. Today, a potpourri of delightful colors, unique motifs, fairytale silhouettes and extraordinary craftsmanship have become hallmarks of our brand. Through our collections, we celebrate the bounty of nature and the beauty of the human spirit. Our hope is that we can connect with our community in meaningful ways to nurture beauty from the inside out.

We are always conscious of why and how we create. Through thoughtful production methods, we reduce our environmental footprint by making our pieces to order so that we reduce excess; by recycling materials and repurposing unused fabrics; and by giving excess fabric to other fabric producers so that we create cycles of better habits.

A Couture DNA

Fanm Mon celebrates the handcrafted traditions of our Haitian heritage. We often make one-of-a-kind pieces for our clients for special occasions, and we are thrilled when we can add little customized flourishes to make our pieces truly yours. At the same time, we're even happier when our pieces enjoy second lives because we really dislike waste. For us, couture and thoughtfulness go hand-in-hand. 

The Meaning
Behind our Name

Fanm Mon is a Haitian phrase that means mountain woman, but the spirit of Fanm Mon is universal. To us, Fanm Mon signifies a woman - a nurturer - who is intertwined with nature. She is the type of wonder woman who can smell the rain before it comes, and who creates beauty from her natural surroundings. And in this way, we have given a new meaning to a colloquial expression. In our world, the woman that nurtures and understands nature, is one of the most powerful beings on earth.

Our Team

Fanm Mon comes to life through the dedication of a close-knit team from our local community. We work intimately with our team to impart new techniques that deliver the intricacy and details for which we have become known. Sharing and imparting knowledge motivates us supremely. We cultivate a family spirit in our atelier, knowing that our team is invaluable. 

A note from Sophia - our founder

Haiti is the source of everything I do. It is where my umbilical cord was cut and the place where the heart of Fanm Mon resides. As a Caribbean woman, nature has always been captivating to me. And learning how to nourish myself from nature - in real backyard-to-table fashion - is a part of my upbringing that will never leave me. This deep reverence for nature is indelibly embedded in Fanm Mon. 

I also grew up in a nurturing environment of strong Haitian women. My montage of childhood memories are drenched with an absorbable feminine presence. Fashion was at the heart of this feminine aura and every special occasion required a trip to the local seamstress. I often went to fittings with my Grandmother and Aunts and I would see how these bespoke pieces had such a sensual impact on women.

In Haiti, I fell in love with the extra flare, the prints, the bold embroidery and vibrant colors that underlie Haitian couture. This spirit of couture is at the core of my brand. And so from a young age, I had an appreciation for craftsmanship, a huge love affair with nature, and a deep sense of community. In the world of Fanm Mon, I try to create harmony among it all. I hope you enjoy it.
